Karissa Carey is a girl who literally kicked cancers butt. At the age of 13 Kar was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a rare form of cancer that affects the throat. She went through 8 grueling months of treatment to defeat the disease. Along the way she started attending Camp Adventure, a camp for children with cancer and their siblings. Fueled with the desire to help children the way she was once helped Kar is now a volunteer counselor at Camp Adventure. At age sixteen she began her foray into the world of music. She began writing songs about her experiences and found that it not only helped her but those that heard her music as well. At age 22 Kar is currently in school getting her degree in music therapy. She plans to use her music to help children with serious illnesses. She is a true inspiration.
